My kids have a new favorite movie and game. It is How To Train Your Dragon. We were lucky enough to win 4 tickets to see it in the theater in 3D. Will, my 2 year old, begs to see it again every.single.day. I can’t wait till it comes out on DVD. That being said, I jumped at the chance to review a copy of the How To Train A Dragon Wii game.

The age on this game is for ten and up (according to the rating on it, E10+).  However, Madison (my 6 year old) has not had any problems playing all facets of this game on the easy level.  I love that you don’t have to see the movie to understand the game.  On the flip side, if you have seen the movie, this is just what happened after the credits ran.  You’ll recognize the Island of Berk, and they even have the arena!

Being as young as she is, Madison doesn’t normally play games the way you’d think she would.  She likes to explore every facet of the game.  One of her most favorite part of this game is the “create your own dragon” feature.  You are able to customize six different dragon.  You can change their tails, their color, etc.  I think Madison has come up with several hundred different dragons in the short time we’ve had this game.

There are two ways to play this game.  You’ve got the level up game.  You run around the playing field trying to find items to collect to make your dragon stronger, faster, etc.  There is also the head to head mode where you can pick your dream team of dragons and battle against either the Wii or your friends.  I have to admit — this is actually pretty fun to watch.  There also are mini games that allow you earn points toward leveling up your dragon, winning gold and other items to help care for dragons.  The mini games include Ice Sculpting, Looping Race, Flying Sheppard, Memory Torch, and Puzzle Dragon.

Madison can play this game for hours and I love the one on one battles myself.  Since we love this so much, I have a copy I’d love to give away to one of my readers!  Here’s what you need to do (please let me know in the comments each thing you’ve done. Madison loves when I get Wii games to review. She especially loves it when it’s a character that she watches like SpongeBob Squarepants.  I was a little worried with how she would do with the new SpongeBob’s Boating Bash.  It is a driving game, and those type of games tend to frustrate her.  At 6, she’s not a great driver (I’m hoping that will improve by the time she’s 16.  LOL).

SpongeBob has tried to pass his boating test about 78 times and has yet to pass.  The game shows you a shady shark character that talks SpongeBob into taking the zany D.R.I.V.E course.  The course is super crazy.  You drive around in boat mobile in a demolition style party.  The goal is to be the last boat standing!  You get to choose from 6 boat mobiles that can be customized.  Spongebob and Patrick are just two of the characters you can choose to be too!  This game can be played with up 4 players, so you can a ton of fun as a family!

Now, the game is rated E for everyone, and I can definitely say that’s a good rating.  Madison, my 6 year old, could play this game.  She has had no problems playing this.  The driving doesn’t frustrate her too much, and she found a ton of other little secrets of this game.  One of the things you can do is take the characters and play musical instruments.  It’s almost like having a band in your living (I’m not sure if that’s a good thing at times.  LOL).  Madison likes this game quite a bit.

If you are looking for a great game for younger kids, I highly recommend this.  It makes a great Christmas or birthday present.
