You’ve Been Sentenced

sentanced1-160x300A great fun game to play with your family has to be You’ve been Sentenced! It’s for 8 and up, but with some help, even your new reader can play it.  Each player gets 10 cards.  You take your ten cards and make a sentence that makes sense.  Your sentence then goes to the jury — that is, your fellow players.  You have to justify why it makes sense to score.  Some of the sentence you are forced to make up are pretty funny.  It really makes you think fast and having to justify your sentence makes you have to think even faster!  The game comes with 540 cards that are five sided, so you have hours and hours of unique games ahead of you!  If you manage to make it through all of the cards, there are even add on decks!  You can add on the Reader’s Digest National Word Power Challenge, Gourmet Cuisine, Pop Culture (this is our personal favorite), Sci-Fi/Fantasy, and Sports Highlights.

You’ve Been Sentenced is a game that is fun for any child or adult who can read!

Myself Belts

beltsOne of the most frustrating things I’ve come across is finding a belt for Madison. The kid needs an actual belt not just a pretty thing to hold up her pants (I wish I had that problem). The problem we were having was that I couldn’t actually find any belts in the stores that she could do by herself.  Step in Myself Belts.  These belts are a lifesaver in my house.  They are velcro, so Madison can do it herself.  Actually, Will my 2 year old can do it himself too.   It’s a great way to promote independence with your kids.  These are perfect for special needs too, because they literally can undo and do this belt with one hand.  They even have adult sizes (which I think is awesome since I can imagine how difficult a regular belt must be if you have arthritis).  Price wise, these belts are cheaper than anything I found in the stores (which Madison couldn’t do).

I can only highly recommend these belts.  My kids can do them by themselves, they are hardy, and the price is right.  What more can you ask for?

Scatterpillar Scramble

catepillarA great game that will keep your kids giggling the entire time they are playing is Scatterpillar Scramble.  It’s for kids 4 and up (the marbles are small, so may sure you keep an eye on little ones when this game is being played).  The Scatterpiller plays music and dances as you try to put your color marbles on his hands.  The first player that is able to place their colored marbles all the way to the top row wins (8 total marbles).  It may sound super easy, but let me tell you it’s not!  That being said, Madison (my five year old) didn’t get too frustrated with this.  My kids actually though the dancing Scatterpillar was pretty funny (Will, my two year, was shaking his butt to the music).  If you are looking for a different game for your kids, Scatterpillar Scramble is definitely that!

WaiverWire.com

We are excited at my house that football season is starting.  We recently bought a big screen and were awed when we watched a preseason game on it on Sunday.  It’s amazing what a little HD does for your television watching.  With that being said, some of my fantasy football drafts have already started.  I use to always pick Brett Favre (I am from Green Bay, and well, he’s the best quarterback ever).  After that choice, I pretty much follow the newspaper and ESPN (since the hubby watches it every day).  This year, however, I’ve come across WaiverWire which looks like it will save me a ton of time. I’ve got till the week before regular season to get my draft picks ready. If you sign up for the FREE Stimulus Package (which is what I did), you’ll get:

  • Free Fantasy Leaders
  • Free Player Rankings
  • Free Draft Cheat Sheets

They also have their own social network on the site where you can utilize a:

Seriously, what more could you ask for?  I personally love the leaders and the rankings which should really help me.  The 100 local papers also helps, because my local paper only covers so much.  You are able to get a much better feel for the non-big name players.  This is free, so if you have a draft coming up, make sure you check it out like I did!  You won’t be sorry!

Little Tikes Dive, Chip, & Putt Golf Trainer

My husband is a golfer, and my kids are wanting to learn to golf too. However, I am not about to give them real golf clubs. That’s where the Little Tikes Dive, Chip, & Putt Golf Trainer comes in.  With this handy toy, the kids can play golf in the yard with the Bill (my husband).  Madison and Will love this.  It comes with several clubs, so there is no fighting.  There is the ball that is attached (which makes it so you aren’t running after golf balls) and some loose ones too (which is so awesome for me.  I love that I can have both kids playing with this at the same time).  The flag on the top can be taken off and used to mark a hole for them to aim towards too.

This is one of those toys that you don’t have to show the kids what to do.  They just know.  It is also a huge hit in my house, and I can only recommend that you get one for your house!
