The Alaskan Experiment

This is another new show on the Discovery Channel. I am not sure, but I think somebody did some market research and thought we need more shows about/in Alaska. Unfortunately, I have to disagree. I love Discovery Channel — I hate this show.  Honestly, I feel like I am watching Survivor.  If I wanted to watch that, I would tune into regular TV.  When I do find something interesting in the show, the people on it start whining again and ruin the moment.  I just find that The Alaskan Experiment annoys me more than anything.  I don’t find it interesting enough to keep my attention.  (If you haven’t seen the show, it is about a couple of teams that get dropped off in different parts of Alaska and they have to brave it on their own out there for 30 days).

Have you seen this show?  What do you think?

Verminators

Do you like the creepy crawlies? I don’t, so really don’t know why I watch the Verminators on the Discovery Channel. However, even though I cringe the entire time I am watching this, I am addicted. Basically, the people from Isotech go around and take care of pests for people. You would cringe too if you could see some of the houses they go into. The worst had to be the one that had roaches running in the crib. Some of these are so bad that I don’t think an air purifier would save them. Another interesting episode involves them moving a stove, and you can see about an inch and half of cockroaches. I am getting the creepy crawlier just thinking about it. Even though it grosses me out, I love this show, and you should go check it out!

Cities Of The Underworld

This was an awesome show we caught tonight on The History Channel. The city they featured tonight was Chicago. Some of the things they went over we already knew (like they split the first atom under a football field here). However, we learned about an underground railroad that use to deliver goods to the department stores in the 20’s. They even showed us how that tunnel was built. Now, since I am not from here originally, it makes sense I did not know a lot of things they showed us. However, Bill has lived here all his life, and he learned a ton of new information too! We are Discovery Channel freaks, but I think we have found another channel we are going to start watching regularly.

They check out different cities each week that have a world underneath the streets. I highly recommend setting up your Tivo to tape!

Mythbusters

Another hit that Discovery Channel has on their hands is Mythbusters. This show is about taking old wives tales, urban legends, and myths out there and proving if they are true. There is no script for the show, so laughs are definitely easy to come by. They use any supplies they can get their hands on to disprove these myths — everything from HDMI cables to dead pigs.  Not only do they tell you what is fact and fiction, they show it to you!  They have blown up toilets and safes and dropped a dummy off a building (to see if an umbrella would slow the fall) — that’s just to name a couple of crazy things they have done.  I think they are season 4 already, so I am not only one who loves this show!  You are also able to submit myths you want tested.  Also, if you don’t like how they did their testing, let them know.  They have repeated some of their testing due to viewers writing in about it!  If you haven’t seen this show yet, head over to the Discovery Channel right now!
