Idiocracy

idiocracyIdiocracy is one of those movies that you don’t intend on watching but you get sucked into it (trust me, I’ve seen it 3 times now and none where on purpose). The basic premise of this movie is that Luke Wilson becomes part of a government experiment and wakes up to find himself 500 years in the future. What he finds is truly sad. He instantly goes from average Joe to the smartest man in the world! The people in the future no longer think for themselves and buy into pretty much anything you tell them. You could easily tell them land for sale Branson, and they would be wanting to buy that, Hollywood, and the Golden Gate Bridge from you! It was a sad state. The movie is actually quite humorous, and it is scary that, at times, you can actually see some of this happening in our society now. People buy into commercialism and don’t bother doing research on a product. They just take the company’s word for it (Watch the scene in the movie about actually using water to get crops to grow). Heck, last election cycle worked like that too, didn’t it? Overall, this isn’t a movie that would make it to my top ten movies. However, it is a great Sunday afternoon flick to watch that doesn’t require a lot of thinking, and you definitely get some good laughs.

Bridge to Terabithia

I still have not decided how I feel about Bridge To Terabithia. Since the movie was rated PG, we made the assumption that Madison could watch it. Instead, I couldn’t have been happier that she fell asleep. There is a twist at the end that I was even tearing up over. (I don’t want to give too much away.) The story and plot are good. The story is about two misfits who become friends and create a world called Terabithia to play in. The kids are at the age that playing with the opposite sex was just that. It was about make believe and having fun. You didn’t expect anybody handing out diamond rings to one another. Instead, they took common items and turned them into gems for their fortress. For example, they used keys as a bell. However, I personally expected to see much more of Terabithia. Maybe we are too use to seeing the wonderful worlds like those in The Lord of the Rings, but they really did not go enough into that part of the story. I do know that this is a book, and I think I would have liked the book much better. This is one of the those movies you watch once and never again. Also, due to the twist in the story, I would not recommend it for young children (my daughter is 4).

Millionaire Memorabilia

If you are in the market for memorabilia items, Millionaire Memorabilia should be your one stop shop. They have every kind of memorabilia that you could want. They have celebrity memorabilia, movie memorabilia, sports memorabilia, music memorabilia, political memorabilia, and historic memorabilia. I personally would love to get my hands on this:

memorabilia

This movie rocks and this display has the signatures of Leonardo DiCaprio, Martin Scorsese, Matt Damon, Jack Nicholson, Alec Baldwin, and Martin Sheen. How cool is that? This site is super easy to navigate and find what you are looking for. They have great sales and even tell you how many of each item you are looking at is on the market. The above display only has 2, so this is a once in a lifetime piece. You can also check all of the new items they got in too. Now, if they don’t have what you are looking for, you can contact them with special memorabilia requests, and they will try and find it for you!

There are many items for the collector in your life no matter what their interest is in. I found a lot things I would love to get my hands on and quite a few that Bill would love too. If you are in the market for memorabilia, you should start your search here.

Mickey Saves Santa

Mickey Saves Santa is one of Madison’s favorite movies. If your kids are Mickey Mouse Clubhouse fans, they will definitely love this movie. This is also a great holiday movie. Santa’s sleigh breaks down at the the top of the mountain and Mickey and friends have to go and find him. He’s not wearing horse riding apparel or reindeer riding apparel. He’s wearing his Santa apparel when they look for him. They even have Mrs. Claus help! The other great thing about this movie is that there are 2 bones features on here. The first one is the “Hot Dog” Dance along (anybody who watches Mickey Mouse Clubhouse will know what this is) and there are games on here too.

This is a great gift for kids especially if they are Mickey Mouse fans.

Did you ever want to be in a marching band?

I saw this over at Mom Reviews and I had to pass it on. Having been in the marching band in high school, this definitely brings back some memories. The kids in this marching band are definitely cool.

Usually, if you are in the marching band, you are a geek. It isn’t like the outfits you wear for the marching band are trendy. You don’t get anything like sexy boots to wear. However, we never got to any formations as cool as this:

These kids are definitely cool. The funny thing is that you can tell how old you are by how many formations you recognize. Why is this on my review blog? Well, this is one of the best marching bands I have ever seen. Tetris or Zelda, anyone?

These kids definitely deserve some time at some very fancy las vegas resorts. If they can’t afford that they should look into some cheap flights to new york or other cheap flight deals. Since hotel reservations are super easy to make nowadays, any one of these student should be about to get discounts on hotels and some great hotel deals. I am not sure about cheap car rental though. Since these kids would be under the age of 25, it is a tad more expensive for them to rent a car.

Fight Club

Fight Club ranks up there as the best movie of all time for me. Here’s a quick synopsis:

In this movie Edward Norton is the narrator who suffers from a lack of sleep. He tries different ways to cure this, but he does not succeed. He does get some sleep, but his conditions rebounds back into it’s original state when he meets a lovely young woman, whose name is Marla. He finds out that she and he both have a lot in common and they spend a lot of time together. While touring, he meets an enigmatic young man named Tyler and after a short conversation both become fast friends. Both like to relieve their inner tensions by hitting each other. Soon word gets around about their fights, and lots of young people also get interested. Then a club is formed, which the narrator and Tyler call ‘Fight Club’. Both start spending a lot of time and both also make lots of money. Then one day the narrator finds out that Tyler has been using him. You must really watch this movie and find out why the narrator feels this way about his friend, Tyler.

The plot twists are awesome. There are definitely some scenes that could use Progress Lighting. They are dark and brooding. However, for the sake of the movie, it probably needed to be that way. This is also a great movie to see Brad Pitt with no shirt on. :) This is one of those movies that you don’t see the end coming. I know this is an older movie, but it is still pretty awesome.

The Departed

Have you seen The Departed yet? If not, go rent it immediately. This movie is awesome. I will try and not make the plot too confusing. The mob sends somebody in to the police department to report back and the police send somebody into the mob to do the same. The audience knows who they are thought the characters in the movie do not. I do have to warn you — there is a lot of blood and violence (but it is good blood and violence). The characters in this movie definitely needed to look into life insurance no exam due to the nature of their jobs. By the end of the movie for a lot of them, it would have come it very handy. I don’t want to ruin the end, but there is a great plot twist. This is one of those movies that you watch more than once to see what you missed. Let me know your thoughts on it, but this movie ranks up there in my top ten of all time.
