Money Savvy Pig

piggyWith Madison only being 5, it’s hard sometimes to get her to understand about money. At this point, she only understands that there is rectangle money and circle money. That being said they do have a treasure chest at school where you can donate money to (which, in turn, gets donated to the church. For those of you who don’t know, Madison attends a Catholic School).  That is the beauty with this bank.  The kids can actually see where they money is going towards.  I love that each chamber actually can be emptied out through a different foot (would that be a hoof on a pig?).  No worries about mixing the money.  There are goal setting stickers that you put on the bank.  For example, for invest, you could put the graduation cap, because you are going to use that to save for school.  You can also draw your own ideas of what your goals are on the blank stickers.  There is also a great booklet included with ways to talk to your kids about money.

The Money Savvy Pig is a great way to start teaching your kids about money.

Myself Belts

beltsOne of the most frustrating things I’ve come across is finding a belt for Madison. The kid needs an actual belt not just a pretty thing to hold up her pants (I wish I had that problem). The problem we were having was that I couldn’t actually find any belts in the stores that she could do by herself.  Step in Myself Belts.  These belts are a lifesaver in my house.  They are velcro, so Madison can do it herself.  Actually, Will my 2 year old can do it himself too.   It’s a great way to promote independence with your kids.  These are perfect for special needs too, because they literally can undo and do this belt with one hand.  They even have adult sizes (which I think is awesome since I can imagine how difficult a regular belt must be if you have arthritis).  Price wise, these belts are cheaper than anything I found in the stores (which Madison couldn’t do).

I can only highly recommend these belts.  My kids can do them by themselves, they are hardy, and the price is right.  What more can you ask for?

Scatterpillar Scramble

catepillarA great game that will keep your kids giggling the entire time they are playing is Scatterpillar Scramble.  It’s for kids 4 and up (the marbles are small, so may sure you keep an eye on little ones when this game is being played).  The Scatterpiller plays music and dances as you try to put your color marbles on his hands.  The first player that is able to place their colored marbles all the way to the top row wins (8 total marbles).  It may sound super easy, but let me tell you it’s not!  That being said, Madison (my five year old) didn’t get too frustrated with this.  My kids actually though the dancing Scatterpillar was pretty funny (Will, my two year, was shaking his butt to the music).  If you are looking for a different game for your kids, Scatterpillar Scramble is definitely that!

iKnow Animals, Letters & Sounds Beginning Reading System

This giveaway is now over. The winner is Bridget Michelle Combs. Congrats!

iknowWith Madison learning to read, I knew that the iKnow Animals, Letters & Sounds Beginning Reading System was something she was going to love, and I was right.  This 3 disk DVD is both interactive and just beautiful.  I loved how the narrator talked in rhymes as we went along.  They also reinforced the letters that the each animal they were talking about started with.  This is something Madison is currently work on in school, so this was great reinforcement for her.  Madison’s favorite animal on the DVDs right now is the naked mole rat (can you guess why?).  I love that they get the kids learning without realizing it.  The DVDs are really an adventure for them, but they learn animal conservation along the way too.  Granted, this was more for Madison to work with, Will (my 2 year old) has also been enjoying these DVDs too.  As we have learned with his speech therapy, never turn down an opportunity to help him with his talking.  Since he loves animals, we’ve been able to reinforce some of the easier animals that he knows like fox and such.  I just loved that they both sat down and enjoyed watching these.

With that being said, I know I have a lot of readers that this would be great for, so I have arranged for a set of DVDs to be given to one lucky reader!  Here’s what I need you to do:

Prima Princessa Presents The Nutcracker

nutcracker_homepage_thIf you are looking for a great video for this holiday season for the princess in your house, Prima Princessa Presents The Nutcracker is the video you need.  This DVD is an adventure filled with snow fairies, toy soldiers, sugarplums, and sweets.  It definitely puts you in the mood for holiday cheer!  As a mom, you’ll recognize the scenes from the “Nutcracker”.  What Madison loved the most from this video is that they show you real dance steps.  Madison loves pretending, and this shows her the correct ballerina steps.  She even tells the girls at school about it!

The DVD is only 40 minutes which is great for ages 3-6 and their attention spans.  The DVD also costs only $12.99, so it’s very affordable.  Most of all, your little princess will definitely feel part of the story and truly opens their imaginations up.
