Bookmarking Meets Social Networking Meets Knowledge

Every so often you come across a service that really fits into your life. Diigo is that for me. I never understood what the excitement was over sites like delicious. I never saw any practical use for it. However, I see many uses for Diigo. A big one for me is how you are able to use it as a research and knowledge tool and how it will allow me to be more time efficient. For one of my freelancing jobs, we talk a lot over email since we are all over the country. I hate when I find a cool article and then I have to send it to each person (I am still trying to figure out how to make email lists on Gmail).

This service would allow me to bookmark the article and each person on my team can then decide if it pertains to them (instead of me trying to figure that out). You can set up different groups too. My personal group wouldn’t have to wade through my work bookmarks. Another feature that I love is that you can highlight articles and leave notes for yourself. Currently, I have a ton of bookmarks that I did, and I can’t remember what was important in those articles and why I bookmarked them. When doing research, I would love to be able to note that I have already looked at different web pages.

On the more personal side, there are several features that are just fun to play with. First, you have People Like Me. That feature will show you what other people who have bookmarked the same site as you also bookmarked. It will also suggest people that are close to you in your bookmarking behavior. You are able to import your bookmarks from other sites, so you don’t have waste your time doing that again.

Today, Diigo is releasing version 3.0 of their service. They have added over 100 new features so there is a feature for everyone here. It is a tad overwhelming at first when you are trying to figure it all out. However, it is worth your time. This video will show you the new dashboard and some of the new features you should expect:

Yahoo Search

There are several boycotts going on out there against the big “G”. Personally, I did not use too many of their products except for Gmail and their browser. I am not willing to give up my email mailboxes yet, but I definitely found a new browser that I liked. Yahoo Search is everything I remember it to be but better. I ran a search over the weekend for free wordpress themes, and I got a list of sites that I had never seen before! These were truly relevant sites to what I was searching for. I didn’t have to through three pages to find what I needed like some other browsers I have used in the past. The thing I loved the most was that the sponsored listings are on the bottom on the page not the top. You can see that you are getting relevant results at the top instead of having to go through all of the sponsored stuff first. (I take this back. Some of the results have it on top, but it is only 2 spots).

If you are looking to use a new browser, Yahoo Search is one to definitely try out!

About Me

Hi, I am Lisa. I am originally from Green Bay, WI (yes, I am a Packer fan) and now living in Illinois. I have 4 year old daughter and a newborn little boy who surprised us by being born 3 weeks early. (He’s 16 months now!)

Currently, I am a work at home mom who is involved in several side projects. In 2004 and 2005, I worked for a company creating websites. Unfortunately, that went away. However, we introduced our clients to blogging which is how I got into it. I started blogging in April 2006 just to keep in touch with my friends and family in Green Bay. In July 2006, I suffered a miscarriage, and I used my blog to get through that. I now talk about my life and blog for several companies. I still do freelance for a few companies. My other blogs are My Thoughts, Ideas, and Ramblings, Lisa Cooking, and My Road Less Traveled By. I was also one of 15 bloggers to attend the Sony Mommy Bloggers Event in April of 2008 and one of 15 bloggers invited to the Pampers Mommy Bloggers Event.  I also recently went to the Epson/Sparkplugging Girls Night Out.
