Wall E

If you haven’t seen Wall-E yet, what are you waiting for?  Yes, this movie is that good.  I highly recommend running out and seeing it as soon as you get a chance.

Wall E is about the earth in the future.  It has been abandoned due to us not taking care of it.  There are mounds of garbage (everything from refrigerators to wine racks) the size of skyscrapers.  Wall-E is a garbage collecting robot that is there to clean up the mess.  One day, Eve (another robot but one looking for life) shows up.  Wall-E is in love.  Without giving too much away, they go back to the ship where the humans are now living to let them know it is time to come home.

Now, half of the movie has no dialogue, and it is still that good.  They are definitely able to still get their point across, and we get to watch Wall-E and Eve fall in love.  It really makes you think about becoming more enviromentally friendly and making sure that there is even an Earth to hand down to our kids and grandkids.  Madison has been talking like Wall-E for a week now, so it is hit with the 4 year old year too!

Hellboy II: The Golden Army

Bill and I had went a saw Hellboy II:  The Golden Army on Friday night.  My goal is not to give out any spoilers with this review.  If you saw Hellboy and like it, you will love Hellboy II.  However, if you thought the first one was cheesy, you’ll think this one is too.  The story is that the the mythical world starts a rebellion against humanity in order to rule the Earth.  Hellboy and his team must stop them to save us. Obviously, some of these characters are going to have wanted to buy some term insurance on their lives, since they don’t make it out alive (don’t worry, I won’t tell you who!)  The plot was good.  However, it was pretty predictible.  I had guessed the ending half way through the movie (and yes, I had guessed it right).  There were a few twists and turns that I didn’t see coming.  The special effects were awesome.  The humor was great too.  After seeing this movie though, you’ll never think of the tooth fairy the same again (okay, one little sort of spoiler).  Personally, I would have waited to see this on video. However, my husband was glad we saw it in the theater.

When We Left Earth

The Discovery Channel is awesome.  I have another show on there you have to watch.  It’s called When We Left Earth, and it is all about the space program.  You get to watch the real footage from when man first went into space, and when he went to the moon.  I know the next show is going to show the Challenger mission.  The reason I find this so interesting is that I wasn’t even born in the time frame of the first two shows.  It is one thing to read the history in a book; it is another to actually see it unfold in front of you.  You can feel the tention in the room while you are waiting to see if they actually make it into space.  They even interview the people involved now to tell you what they thought back then.  The technology they had back then (there was no such thing as dell memory chips) is just mindblowing. It is hard that they made it into space with what they had.  I accidentally caught this one night, and I am glad I did.

Survivorman

Discovery Channel has struck gold again with their show Survivorman.  This is one of Bill and mine favorite shows out there.  It is about Les Stroud he gets dropped off in all sorts of situations that he a week to find his way out of.  He is left with a few supplies that normal people would have if they were lost in the wilderness.  He has no crew and has 50 lbs of camera equipment to log around too.  He shows you how to survive in the snow, desert, jungle, and a lot of other places.  I like Survivorman better than Man vs Wild, because Les is so much more believable (especially since the reports that Bear –the host of Man Vs. Wild– often spent the night in hotels instead of out in the wild).  He doesn’t take the chances that Bear does, and I find Les much more down to earth and likable.  The chances of you ever needing this information are small.  However, it is a very interesting show to watch.  I cannot wait till the new season comes out!

Another Social Networking Site

If you have been Google slapped like myself (not on this blog but my other one was), you probably are trying to find new ways to get your site out there to more people (not that traffic helps PR but linkbacks do). The newest Social Media, Social Networking site out there is EarthFrisk. It is a combination of Digg/Thoof/Sk*rt and MyBlogLog/Blog Catalog. However, you get to choose what you want in your widget (as compared to the latter). You can definitely lose several hours of your days reading posts and watching videos (so make sure you have some free time while viewing). The site itself has several interesting facets to it.

I even enjoyed this:

I know it is so wrong (but very funny). It is hard to get comments. That being said they are running a pretty cool contest right now for cash and prizes (who can turn down a great contest?). Actually, they are running several different contests.

The first contest is for the largest network of friends. Right now, no one has over 80 friends, so you have a chance. First prize will net you $2,000 among some other cool stuff (but the cash should have gotten your attention. It is super easy to enter. First, you need to join (you know, fill in a couple of blanks with your information). Then get all of your friends to join too! The next contest is for the most submission and you can get yourself $500 for winning this one. You can also win by making the most commens on their boards and that will win you $500 too. Lastly, you can win $100 for the best looking/original homepage. Seriously, there is something for everyone to try for. Go check it out!
