Norton Online Family

logo-norton-from-symantecWe are a family that uses Norton on all of their computers, so I when I heard about Norton Online Family I knew I wanted to check it out.  For parents out there who need an easy way to see what their kids are doing online, Norton Online Family is what you need.  You can easily set up an account online and profiles for each of your family members.  You can easily check with an internet connected device you child’s activity or even change their profile.  All sites they visit are in chronological order and don’t include any popup ads they may encounter.  You can even see what words and phrases are being used for searches.  It even tracks personal information that your child may send out via email and social networks.  You can monitor their activity on social networks such as mySpace and Facebook.  Though I do have to admit my favorite part of this program is that the “house” rules are always visible to your children.  There is no guessing what is and isn’t okay.  It is outlined for them in black and white.

If this sounds like something you need at your house, they, for a short time, are offering a beta test.  You can sign up and try this out for yourself at no cost to you!  What do you have to lose besides making your kids safer?

The Princess Bride

princess-brideMy brother in law’s most favorite movie of all time is The Princess Bride, so he was very jealous when he found out we got The Princess Bride game. This game works both on PCs and Macs, so everyone can play it.  If you have even seen the movie, you will love this game.  It stays true to the movie, and you’ll find yourself laughing with the game.  The animtion in the game is awesome too.  The best part is that there are 5 seperate games in here.  I love that you are able to go through and play what you are best at.  I personally loved the Time Management games and could play those all night.  There is also inconceivable trivia, puzzle transformer, hidden objects, and inventory and collection assembly.  This game is easy to find yourself playing and then it is three hours later!  It is rated E for everyone, and Madison (who is 4) was able to play a lot of it (some of it with some help).  If you are looking for a great unique gift this holiday season, I would recommend this game.

Countdown To Christmas: Internet Password Organizer

With everything being on the internet nowadays, it really seems like you need a password for almost everything you do. Now, for security reason, you should not use the same password twice, make it with both numbers and letters, and you should change your passwords at least every six months.  I don’t know about you, but I belong to several places that I need passwords for, and it is seriously hard to figure out how to keep it all straight.  This is where the Internet Password Organizer comes to the rescue. Why should you use the Internet Password Organizer?  First, no one can hack into it on you.  Nothing is worse than having your computer compromised and the hackers being able to get into everything.  This provides you with a single centralized location in which to store all your online account login information, and the tabbed sheets makes it super easy to find what you are looking for.  Also, I have had my hard drive fail.  If that is the only place you have your passwords saved, you are in big trouble.  This notebook is also very discrete.  Without opening it, most people won’t even know what’s in it.  It also is better than sticky notes all over your computer monitor (now, I know lots of people who do this).  There is even sections that allow you to put in your ISP information, your email settings, your wireless network and router information, and any software licenses you have.

Now, I know a lot of you are wanting one of these, so I will be giving one of these to two lucky winners! Here’s what you need to do:

Countdown To Christmas: SimpleTech Mini Drive

Anyone who has any sort of computer needs to get one a SimpleTech Mini Drive.  It is small, but it has a big punch.  You can store up to 250 GB of data on this baby.  Now, I have a lot of pictures and music (and trust me, it is more than I even thought!), and it is not taking up even half of the memory on this!  There are several things I love about my SimpleTech Mini Drive.  The first thing would have to be the size.  It truly is small enough to fit in a pocket (not necessarily your jean pocket per say but a bit larger pocket).  It is also made for my house, because it is durable.  It has a velvety smooth texture to help you grip it, and it was made for travel.  If you drop it, it is not end of the world (though I may have to ground you to your room for the rest of your life).  It comes in different colors, so if they bubblegum color that I have is not your cup of tea you have several to choose from like Espresso, Marshmallow, Kiwi, and Cayenne.  You also get a high speed USB 2.0 “Y” cable that provides power without extra cables (love, love, love that!).  It even gives you backup software and you are able to use their Fabrik Ultimate Backup™ online service (2 GB free).

Want to know how easy this is to use?  Just plug one of the Y cord to the mini drive and the other to your computer.  That’s it!  Bill and I will be spending this afternoon taking the rest of the music off our desktop and saving it to the minidrive.  I then will be able to put all our MP3s on my laptop.  We haven’t done it till now, because over our home network, it takes forever!  I am super excited to be able to finally play music on my laptop!

Like I said, if you know anyone who has a computer, they need a SimpleTech Mini Drive.  You never know when your hard drive will decide to crash and take all of your data with it.

Countdown to Christmas: Inkubook

For the person who has everything, Inkubook is another great gift for them.  I recently made one for my family, and we love it.  I made it of the kids without telling my husband.  When it was delivered today, I let him open it.  He loves it.  It was so cool looking at the kids pictures as they have grown up. There are a few things I did learn.  When it tells you the picture may not look good, it won’t.  Trust me on that.  Also, make sure your clean up your pictures (like get rid of red eye) before you send them over.  They don’t fix that. However, if you end up having any problems (I had a browser that wasn’t clearing its cache), their support staff rocks.  They talked me through fixing it.  Also, the most time consuming part of this is when they upload your pictures (which you can do from both Flickr and/or your computer — how cool is that?  You are able to custom put your pictures in too or autofill.  Now, I used the autofill, and I was still able to move around the pictures where needed.  The site is pretty easy to use and navigate.  Overall, we love our new family album and are thinking of doing this for the grandmas for Mother’s Day since I already have their Christmas presents bought.  This ends up being a great quality book that you can keep forever.
