National Geographic Kids 2010 Almanac Review and Giveaway

This giveaway is now over. The winner is Debra P. Congrats!

I remember back in the day (and I may be dating myself here) when almanacs were boring. You used them for school projects (when you needed to) and never looked at it again.  All I have to say is that my kids have it way better!  I have to admit I was excited to check out the National Geographic Kids 2010 Almanac.  The cover alone makes you want to look inside and find interesting facts.  What surprised me most was that my husband sat in his chair and read the almanac for himself one night.  I knew my kids would love it, but my husband got drawn in too!

My two year old likes the pictures.  We’ve been able to take the book and work it into his speech and get him to say a few more words.  My 6 year old also enjoyed the pictures.  However, she liked the facts too.  Both my kids loved the section on dinosaurs and loved finding pictures of snakes to show my husband (who is NOT a fan of snakes at all.  I love that we all found this book great!  This book is just full of knowledge (which will come in handy for my next game of Trivia Pursuit!).  National Geographic Kids 2010 Almanac is definitely a book that’s hard to put down once you open it no matter what your age.

Since I loved this book so much, I’ve arranged for one lucky reader to also win a copy of the National Geographic Kids 2010 Almanac.  Here’s what you need to do:

Check out the National Geographic site and tell me what you hope to learn about if you win this book.  Did you want to learn that in Scotland residents open their front doors before midnight on New Year’s Eve to let the old year out and the new year in?  Or did you want to know that in the 1870’s a swarm of locusts migrated over the Great Plains that stretched 300 miles long and 100 miles wide?

Each of these gives you one additional entry:

Add More ~Ing To Your Life Review and Giveaway

This giveaway is now closed. The winner is Marcy Strahan. Congrats!

Are you happy in your life? Are you in rut that you can’t seem to get out of? If so, Add More ~Ing To Your Life is a must read book for you.  This book starts off with the author telling you about her life and how unhappy she was.  She shares with us how she had everything you are suppose to have to be happy and yet wasn’t.  She also talks about the changes she made and how they impacted her life to get where she is today.  I find that a lot of self help books don’t have authors that get this personal.  It tends to be a do as I say, not as I do.  However, this book isn’t that at all.  I love that this a 30 day guide, and it ties in physical activity, positive affirmations, and creative visualization.  This book teaches you how to rethink and remove the negative thoughts you may have.  She also uses others stories to show you how other women have taken her advice and how they used it.  My favorite story has to be the one of her mentor Rha, and how she attracted her husband (it reminds me of my story.  My husband was the guy you’d never date because he’s such a good guy.).  I find this book to be written for a younger crowd (20’s and 30’s) though I think that every generation will walk away with some insight for their own personal life.

Since everyone wants to make a change in their lives, I’ve arranged for one of my lucky readers to get a copy of this book.  Here’s what you need to do:

Check out the Add More ~Ing To Your Life site and tell me what area in your life you’d like to improve.

Sabu & Me

sabu-and-me-book-coverSabu & Me is the story of Maura Lane and her dog Sabu and the wonderful times they spent together during Maura’s early life. Written by Maura herself, Sabu and Me is the re-telling of her earliest memories with her best friend.  I love that this book is written so Madison, who is learning to read, can actually read most of the book herself!  Each page has only one sentence on it, so it will hold the attention of even the youngest little one.  Will, my two year old, loves to just look at the pictures in this book.  The illustrations bring the story of Sabu & Me to life and tell the story without even needing the words.  Best of all, the profits from the book from on-line sales will be donated to Paws Chicago.  This book is a must have book!

Dave Ramsey’s Children’s Books

Nationally-syndicated talk radio show host and personal financial expert Dave Ramsey has a line of children’s books that teach children how to handle money through saving, giving and spending.  In the books, the main character, Junior, takes children on some wonderful adventures and teaches them life lessons in the process.  Madison and I have read the entire box set.  I love how the books teach important lessons about  money but aren’t preachy in the process.  The illustrations will grab your child’s attention and keep it too.  The story is truly told with the pictures.  Kids will get the lessons out of each book and be able to actually apply them to their lives.

These books are appropriate for children ages 3 and up.  The boxed set retails for $39.99, however individual books can be purchased for just $9.99

What Color Is Your Brain Review and Giveaway

This giveaway is now over. The winner is Lance Pearson. Congrats!

color brainWhat Color Is Your Brain describes our personality types using four colors in a packed, fast, fun-filled book that is easy to read and understand.  We get to learn from Sheila Glazov’s stories and anecdotes from her workshops that were conducted for major corporations and organizations all over the world how to better understand our co-workers, bosses, children, spouses, and any others you spend time with.

The colors are based on the Myers-Briggs Type Indicator (which is a well-known and well-used personality assessment that’s based on Dr Carl Jung’s four personality functions. I learned from this test that Bill and I are polar opposites.)  Sheila simplified this to make it easier for children and adults to remember.

The book begins with the test for you to take to start determining your brain color type. Each of the other eighteen chapters is full of charts and lists to illustrating concepts from romantic relationships to the best working environment.

What Color Is Your Brain helps you to understand why you act the way you do.  It also helps you understand the people that surround you and who doesn’t want to know that?  Here’s what you need to do get your very own copy:

Leave me a comment telling me who you would use this book to better understand:
