Happy baby colors is a book that gets a lot of use in our house.  Since it is made out of cardboard, both Will (my one year old) and Madison (my four year old) can enjoy it.  Each page of the book lists a color.  Everything on that page is that color and there is a baby dressed in that color.  For example, on the purple page, there is baby dressed in purple pajamas and there is purple on that page too.  Under brown, my husband was a little disappointed to not see home theater seating (though there was chocolate). Five Rubber Duckies is a book in my house that gets read often. It is just as popular with Will (my one year old) as with Madison (my 4 year old). Will enjoys the books for several reasons. First, he likes the duckies. The pages aren’t like normal book pages; they are half pages with ducks on top. The pages are thick cardboard, so even if he chews on them (and he has), they will not get wrecked. He also can’t rip them. Madison likes this book because we can work on her math skills. As you turn each page, there are two lines which rhyme. It is a story about duckies, and as you turn the page, we lose a ducky (have no fear — they don’t need foreclosure help, they are just busy doing other things).  It is a cute story and ends with 1 rubber ducky being left with a clean baby.  My kids completely adore this book and I highly recommend it!

One of the few things that I have ever bought for my kids and got a ton of use out of is my Braun Thermoscan thermometer. I love this thermometer that I actually bought one to stay at both grandmas’ houses. It is so easy to use that Madison can take her own temperature (and she often does too!). All you have to do it hit the on switch which is right below the screen. When turned on, the screen will show —F (or the last temperature you took). Now, it’s time to take temperatures. Your next step is to put the thermometer in the ear and hit the button on top of it labeled Start. You will see a green light blink and in less than 3 seconds you have your temperature. Now, if you have a screaming child, the light also stays on when its done so you can tell. It is seriously that easy. I hate doing rectal temperatures, so this was a heaven sent. It is so easy to use, and you need that when you have a screaming baby on your hands. I love that it tells me the last temperature I took also. When you are stressing when your kids are sick, you often can’t remember if the temp has gone up or down. This is a nice reminder. Its amazing to see how far thermometers have come since I was a little; I wouldn’t be too surprised if they start coming out with their own video cards!

You know how there are products out there that make you smack your head when you encounter them, because you wonder why you didn’t come up with it? WedgEZ is one of those products. For any mother of young children, you need one of these. What WedgEZ helps you to remove those cumbersome electrical outlet covers that we all have in our houses. I personally can tell you that I have broken more nails trying to get those things out than doing anything else! As you can see from the picture, there is a nice little grip on it for you to hold. You then put the tip of the WedgEZ between the outlet and the plastic. As you are pushing it between the two, direct the handle towards the wall. The plastic plug will then start unplugging itself. On the other side of the handle, you can see some clips that will allow you to attach this wonderful product to your vacuum cord (or any other electrical appliance for that matter). I love that since it makes it ten times harder to lose (the fact that it’s orange helps too!). In my house, Madison has nicknamed this “The Chicken”. I am not sure why, but “The Chicken” has been extremely helpful here. My nails thank me every time I am pulling out those plastic plugs.

I have a baby shower coming up at the end of May, and this is one of the products I definitely will be getting for her. This is both a great tool for my home and to give as a gift.

I swear it gets harder and harder to find quality programs and cds for our kids that won’t drive us (parents) up the wall. That Baby CD and That Baby DVD is the answer. It is extremely hard to keep both kids entertained while watching something. However, That Baby DVD did its job. Will just stared at the tv in wonderment, and Madison danced while the songs played (Will did a little dancing of his own too). The first thing that Bill and I noticed was that we recognized a lot of the songs on here. The second thing we noticed was that songs were sung for the kids and toned down. However, they weren’t completely kidified, so that you feel like pulling your hair out and covering your ears. I can’t tell you how many of those kinds of CDs (I know we all have them) that we listened to once and never again. That Baby CD is what Will listens to at night. We use to have a classical CD playing in his room all night. It is the same CD we used for Madison, so we happily replaced it with That Baby CD. He sleeps with it just fine, and I sometimes catch myself singing with it when I change his diaper (shhhh, don’t tell anyone). Both the DVD and CD have gotten a lot of play in my house. This ranks high on my list of things all mothers should have.
