Chicken Count is a game for kids 4 and up. It doesn’t require any reading, so for us, it made it a lot easier for Madison to play. Your goal is to collect the most chickens by the chicken coop is built. It is pretty easy. You draw cards. If you get a chicken card, you keep it. If you get a chicken coop card, you pick a chicken coop piece and place it on the coop. If you draw a fox, you lose all your chicken cards. When the chicken coop has been built, the person with the most chicken cards wins. it is a pretty fast pace game, so it is great for this age group who have a short attention span. We had lots of giggles when we played this.
Where Do I Live? is a memory game. Your goal is to have the most pairs at the end. You try and turn over cards and match animals to their homes. For example, bee matches to beehives, house to a boy, and a pond to a frog. Not only is this game fun to play, it really opens a dialogue with your kids. You get to talk about all of these animals and their homes. This game is for kids 4 and up and doesn’t require any reading.
These two games are winners in our house. They are very age appropriate and have been played here quite a bit. We had lots of fun, and you will too.

Another affordable toy out there on the markets this year can be purchased at Macy’s. At $14.99, Skoodlez makes a great toy for your kids or a grab bag, and can be given to kids 4 – 12. The stuffed animal has weighed down hands and feet, so you can easy pose them and hang them. The cool part is that there is a coin handing around the stuffed animals neck. You take the code off the coin and use that to access the online world. On the site, children are challenged to create their own stories. There are three different settings, so you can taylor it to your child’s age. Beginner is from 4 – 6, medium is from 7 – 9, and advanced is 10 – 12. When they finish their story, they can share them Skoodlez community. They can also print them out.
This makes the perfect gift for the kid who has everything. The Everday Skoodlez line includes fifteen animals: hippo, cat, dog, mouse, duck, lion, tiger, leopard, panda, bear, zebra, giraffe, monkeys, and elephant. There is also twenty four holiday ones. I personally believe books always make great gifts. We have installed into our children how important reading is, and you can tell. Both my one year old and my four year old can often be seen flipping through books without Bill or me even around. This is why I l love companies like GiftLit who make it easier to give books as gifts to both children and adults alike.
GiftLit has an advisory board of librarians, educators, authors, and industry experts that select the books that are sent out, so you know these are great books. They have books for every age too! They have books for toddlers on up. They way this works is you pick with selection of books you want. If you are looking at the kids books, you can choose which age group you want. For adults, you can pick anything from fiction to mysteries to history. You can also choose how long you want your gift subscription to last. You can buy them in 3, 6, or 12 month increment. The best part of this is that this is the gift that keeps on giving. Instead of the one present you get Christmas morning, you can potentially have a gift every month of the year.
We have this come to our house, and we love it. The books are great quality books that I would have never thought to check out. Also, what kid doesn’t like to get mail for them? Actually, what adult doesn’t like getting a present in the mail each month? This is truly the gift that keeps on giving, and I am deciding which book lover in my family is getting this. If you’d like to get this for yourself or as a present, just make sure you use the code LISA1130, so you can get 10% off your order!

Have you ever went to the Build A Bear Workshop? If so, you will know that it is one of the coolest places around if you have kids. It is seriously like watching magic happen as you watch your bear being made. It is awesome that you can personalize it and everything. However, when we moved from Aurora back to Chicago, I didn’t realize that we were going to be leaving our beloved Build A Bear Workshop. I have no idea where one is now. That being said, there are a couple of ways for me to get my Build A Bear fix.

The bears were built by celebrities like Tori Spelling & Dean McDermott, the Jonas Brothers, James Gandolfini, Melissa Joan Hart, Bonnie Hunt, Mitchel Musso, Meaghan Jette Martin and more. This would definitely be a talking point for your house!
If that isn’t enough, Wii has come to the rescue for those of use who don’t like by a Build A Bear workshop! They now have a game called Build-A-Bear Workshop® A Friend Fur All Seasons. Up to four players can play and you can name, feed, and dress your bear. You can even go on adventures with them! This game is rated E for Everyone, so you can enjoy it no matter what age you are! Rarely do I come across a book that inspires me just as much as my kids. However, Whats Your Red Ball is that book. This book is like no other book you’ve ever seen. It is about how to overcome adversity and find your true passion. As an adult, we all need to do this too, so this book, while geared at kids, can certainly get you thinking as an adult. The author of this book, Kevin Carroll, went from an abandoned child with a love of sports to working for the Air Force, Philadelphia 76ers, and Nike. His story, which is how the book starts, makes you want to be all you can be. The book itself gives you the material to make your own “box of magic”. This box is all about your gifts, your talents, your aspirations, your interests, and your hopes. The rest of the book tells you how to figure out how to decorate and fill your box. There are questions you need to answer and excercises you need to do, but by the end, you will have figured out whats your red ball.
Your age does not matter for this book. At 31, I find inspiration in it. This book is perfect for anyone who has lost their path in life and for those who are just finding it now.
