I was invited to an event at the Building Blocks Toy Store in Wicker Park here in Illinois. I was impressed with this shop. I don’t have an independent toy store in my area. However, I would be willing to drive up there again because Katherine, the owner, was just so awesome.
The Building Blocks Toy Store believes in the power of play for kids. The toys they have aren’t electronic. They require your kids to think and to use their brains (which I love!!!). They carry the highest quality products and brands from around the world including Corolle, Brunder, Educo, Green Toys, Ravensburger, Thomas and Friends, Playmobil, Melissa & Doug, Haba, Plan Toys, Gund, Alex Toys, Uglydoll, Lego, and Erector Sets. Children are always welcome at the store and area allowed to play!
If you can believe it, Building Blocks has been around 15 years! In the first half of 2011, Katherine has donated over $20,000 in products to charitable efforts and community events including over 100 school benefits.
When shopping this year for Christmas, keep your local independent toy stores in mind and if you are in Chicagoland, check out Building Blocks Toy Store. They even wrap your gifts for you!

Thanks for the heads up on the store, I'll be sure to check it out!
It's good to know that some independent toy stores are still around. The one in my area that I grew up with had to close down recently. I also love that they don't sell electronics!
Thanks for the great read!
