Did you ever want to be in a marching band?
I saw this over at Mom Reviews and I had to pass it on. Having been in the marching band in high school, this definitely brings back some memories. The kids in this marching band are definitely cool.
Usually, if you are in the marching band, you are a geek. It isn’t like the outfits you wear for the marching band are trendy. You don’t get anything like sexy boots to wear. However, we never got to any formations as cool as this:
These kids are definitely cool. The funny thing is that you can tell how old you are by how many formations you recognize. Why is this on my review blog? Well, this is one of the best marching bands I have ever seen. Tetris or Zelda, anyone?
These kids definitely deserve some time at some very fancy las vegas resorts. If they can’t afford that they should look into some cheap flights to new york or other cheap flight deals. Since hotel reservations are super easy to make nowadays, any one of these student should be about to get discounts on hotels and some great hotel deals. I am not sure about cheap car rental though. Since these kids would be under the age of 25, it is a tad more expensive for them to rent a car.

I was a band nerd, even marched for 3 years in college. Oh yeah…I’m a geek! LOL!

Things have certainly changed since I was in marching band! That looks like the Cal Berkeley band — a great group! My nephew is in the Cal Poly SLO band and they are also REALLY good.
I am the announcer for the Grape Bowl Classic — a band review hosted by our local high schools — and I love seeing all the different groups and the shows they come up with.
BTW, the patterns they form on the field are all computer-generated. It is really cool to watch how they put these shows together.

Freaking cool! I love the Tetris formation!

Having been in marching band myself in high school — it isn’t easy to do that. There is a lot more to it than it looks.
Computer generated or not, it looks cool. lol

I was a band nerd, too, and I’m proud of it! In fact, I was such a nerd that I played the bass drum (because our band teacher wouldn’t let girls play the snare or triple toms).
Neat formation!

My band geek day lasted just that, one day. I played the Sax and not being coordinated tripped and sprained my ankle. I decided to stick to other geeky clubs that didn’t require moving without seeing where I was going.

oh yeah? Well, i’m still a band geek, in fact, I am a music major! Anyways, being a marcher, and while loving video games, this is the coolest show ever! I want the drill…
speaking of, yeah, they are computer generated so the kids know where to go, they aren’t generated on the field. They use drill programs like Pyware, Drillmaster, or any other ones out there now

yeah, this is pretty cool, but it’s taken from the wrong side of the field. as a marching band member, having to watch a band from the other side (as we do at competitions) is the single most annoying thing. ever. that said, it rocks hard. i need to ask my friend in the trumpet section at UCal Berkeley if this was them.

Thanks for all your comments. I was one of the Cal Band members that put this show together and just wanted to say that “programming” the show is a pain in the arse, but I’m proud that we’re one of the only bands out there that lets the students do this. Band members pick the shows and the committee I’m on in band, called the Stunt committee, designs them. This allows us to own what we do and do what we love. Cal Band Great!

p.s. we have our own, somewhat antiquated, computer program called Cal Chart.
