Modest Needs
I came across a great charity site today that you should check out. It is called Modest Needs. They help people with short term emergency needs. The majority of us could find ourselves in the same situation, so this charity caught my attention. 85% of the proceeds go towards the people they help. They screen people and there is a rigorous application process to go through before they list your need on their site. They investigate to make sure that you really need the money. This also counts as a tax deduction. Please look into this if you are looking for a charity to give to this holiday season. It is a not a hand out, but instead a hand up.

Modest Needs is such an awesome project! Sometimes you just need a tiny little boost and it can be hard to get that if you’re in the middle income range. I like that they check things so people don’t take advantage of it like some other charities.

I volunteer at a place that gives free food and clothing for people with emergency needs, and I interview the people that come in for help. Sometimes it just takes one bad thing happening in some of these people’s lives, and then it’s a snowball effect. Maybe their car breaks down and they don’t have money to fix it. They can’t get to work because they don’t have transportation and then they lose their job. Many have health problems and life is hard for them or they’re elderly who can’t make it on a fixed income. We help, on average, 200 families a month so we see some sad situations!
